Commercial Concrete Leveling Case Studies: Apartments Settling in Doniphan, MO

Monday, January 21st, 2013 by Dave Thompson

Challenge

Lifting the apartment units all at the same time without fracturing the footing and interior drywall was a huge undertaking.  The engineer determined that the structure "Tipped" collectively and that was the reason for the minimal damage throughout the building.  Our customer was depending on us to do this foundation settlng repair with as little as possible damage to the interior drywall.

Solution

By connecting all of the push piers with hydraulic lift cylinders we could control the pressure needed to do an uniform lift.  Only one small drywall crack appeared in the middle appartment.  We lifted the structure back a total of 4 and 7/8 inches.  We got a full inch lift just by individually driving each push pier to load bearing strata.  The photos show the additional lift of 3 and 7/8 inches we did the last day of the project when we had all the piers working together.
